STATS gets into the rhythm at Cadent Gas engineering conference

Wednesday 9th April 2025
STATS Group were guests at the Coventry headquarters of Cadent Gas - the UK’s largest gas distribution network which provides gas to 11 million homes and businesses.

With a network of more than 82,000 miles of gas transportation pipes under its management, it was an excellent opportunity for STATS to showcase their market leading technologies at Cadent’s annual engineering conference with 140 Cadent engineers and managers in attendance.

The STATS team, led by Senior Business Development Manager Neil Mackay, hosted live demo sessions on a range of patented products including: 8” BISEP® line stop tool, 3” External Pipe End Plug (E-PEP) and 4” In Line Weld Test Tool. The demonstration including hydraulically deploying and activating the BISEP allowed STATS to display their fail-safe double block and bleed isolation tool in action and to provide a visual representation of its capabilities.

STATS E-PEP, a mechanical alternative to a weld cap test end, capable of withstanding pressures up to 350 bar was demonstrated on the day to highlight its simple, near instant installation time. The In Line Weld Test Tool demonstrated its dual functionality, firstly as a robust and safer industry alternative gas safe barrier for piping welding operations, while also being shown to provide local hydrotests of new welds or flanged connections.

Morning demos and six 15-minute afternoon sessions, generated strong engagement and discussion allowing STATS to highlight the limitations of traditional industry solutions.

Cadent is a key client for STATS and one of a growing number of gas distribution companies to adopt the BISEP tool. Since 2023 Stats has completed four projects on behalf of Cadent in Stafford, Coventry, Bacton and Beeston involving BISEPS ranging from 4” to 12” diameter, and is currently engaged in a further seven projects.

Neil Mackay said: “STATS Group are market leaders in the supply of temporary pipeline isolations and hot tapping services and have revolutionised the way in which essential work is being performed on the National Transmission System and the Gas Distribution Network in the UK.

“Last year we completed the UK’s largest ever gas line stopping operation with the BISEP and our Remote Tecno Plug was named IGEM’s Product of the Year for its use on the National Transmission System.

“The event was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen relationships, collaborate and share the benefits of our specialist tools with a wide audience, while exploring future opportunities in which we can support Cadent Gas.”
